The Forest King

an englisch-ukrainian fairytale

A chance cat rises to rule the beasts.
The fox planned every step, yet the forest plays by its own laws.
Schemes, ambition, and unforeseen consequences — who will keep the throne?

The ideology of hatred is the division of people based on nationality: Jews, Russians, Germans, Ukrainians, Africans…. To single out a nation to hate — that is the most monstrous thing we engage in in the 21st century, having inherited this plague from the 20th century, the century of hatred.

We are Ukrainian-speaking Europeans, beginning a new life on a new land. We stand for a transparent world, while cherishing our identity. Identity is language, culture, the books we read to our children, the films we want to watch when we feel low. It is what we confide in our loved ones. In the 21st century, championing a national idea feels like the madness of old age.

For us the theatre — it is not the façade of a building where actors are monuments to themselves; it is a place of life, of the breath of freedom, where all people feel truly well.
